FEMA Trailer InjuriesNew Orleans, Louisiana, FEMA Trailer Injury AttorneyWhen Hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroyed much of the Gulf Coast region in the summer of 2005, thousands of people had no choice but to move their families into temporary FEMA shelters. Tens of thousands of residents of New Orleans continue to occupy these trailers, as they await the reconstruction of their homes and neighborhoods. Unfortunately for many, not all of these trailers are safe. Formaldehyde, a dangerous carcinogen known to cause lung cancer, respiratory disease and other health ailments, have turned toxic FEMA trailers into "toxic tin cans", according to an MSNBC report. Many trailers are proving to be too dangerous to live in for individuals and families. After doctors began recording high incident rates of respiratory diseases among children living in the trailers, the units were tested by local Sierra Clubs throughout the Gulf Coast region. More than 80% of the FEMA trailers had levels of formaldehyde higher than the safety threshold set by the Environmental Protection Agency. Se habla español - Spanish language services are available
